Tortured bird put down

An injured seagull had to be euthanized by Turlock Animal Control after half a dozen juveniles tried to pull its wing off Sunday afternoon in Donnelly Park.
The Turlock Police department received a call around 1:30 p.m. Sunday from a man at the park. He said he had just scared off about six to seven 12 to 14 year old Hispanic boys who had been kicking and twisting the wing of a seagull, Turlock Police Lt. Steven Williams said.
The police found the wounded bird near Hawkeye Avenue. Williams said the bird’s right wing had been twisted so severely that it was just hanging by skin.
The injured animal was wrapped in a blanket and put into the custody of animal control. The police department reported that the bird had to be euthanized because of the severe trauma it had suffered.
The juveniles believed to be responsible for torturing the bird could not be found among the 100 plus children playing in the park, Williams said.
