Turlock homeowner arrested after setting fire to his own property, investigators say
Wayside Drive fire
Flames tear through the main residence of a house in the 900 block of Wayside Drive early Wednesday. Investigators say the homeowner later admitted to intentionally setting the fire.

A Turlock man was arrested early Wednesday after investigators determined he intentionally set fire to his own home and a second structure on the property, according to the Turlock Police Department and Turlock Fire.

Fire crews were called to the 900 block of Wayside Drive at about 3 a.m. Jan. 28 and arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the main residence and a second fire burning in a back house. Five engines, one truck, two battalion chiefs, the Fire Investigation Unit, AMR, and Turlock police responded to the scene.

Firefighters brought both fires under control within an hour and remained on scene conducting overhaul. One person was displaced.

The Stanislaus County Fire Investigation Unit determined the fires were intentionally set and identified the homeowner, Noe Rodriguez, 41, as the suspect. Rodriguez was still at the scene when investigators arrived.

“The homeowner made spontaneous statements about starting the fire intentionally,” Turlock Police spokeswoman Dominique Sanchez said. “Further investigation and interview confirmed the homeowner had set fire to his own residence.”

Sanchez said Rodriguez became combative with officers during his arrest. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on two counts of arson, resisting arrest and outstanding warrants.
