A Turlock man already facing a charge of being an accessory in a homicide was arrested again Wednesday after he allegedly shot two men.

Kevin Barnes, 20, was taken into custody by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday on charges of attempted murder, possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony and committing a felony while out on bail. Barnes remains in custody at the Stanislaus County Jail without bail.

Sheriff’s investigators believe Barnes was the trigger man in a shooting that injured two men Tuesday morning in Empire.

Around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday sheriff’s department deputies responded to an emergency call of a shooting in the area of Yosemite Boulevard and Leek Road in Empire.

The first deputies to arrive found a 21-year-old victim and a 32-year-old victim both suffering from gunshot wounds. Both of the victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Sheriff spokesperson Sgt. Anthony Bejaran said the injuries were non-life threatening.

Investigators with the sheriff’s department Special Team Investigating Narcotics and Gangs learned the two victims had been driving on Yosemite Boulevard when a gunman shot at them multiple times from another vehicle. Based on information learned during the investigation, Barnes was identified as the suspected shooter.

Barnes was at the Stanislaus County Superior Courthouse Wednesday for a pretrial hearing on two other offenses when he was taken into custody. The arrest was made without incident.

Barnes is facing an accessory to murder charge in the death of Falane Jones, 37, of Turlock. Jones was shot four times on the night of April 23 outside a residence in the 300 block of W. Hawkeye Avenue. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Barnes was arrested May 1 by the San Francisco Police Department. He was contacted by an officer for an unrelated reason. Barnes initially provided that agency with a false name, but during the course of their investigation, they determined Barnes was a wanted person by the Turlock Police Department.

Devenae Price, 24, of Ceres, has been charged with Jones’ murder. Kelley Trezvant, 18, of Modesto and Deandranae Campbell, 19, of Livingston were also arrested for being accessories to murder.
