FRIDAY: The Turlock Police Department processed 257 calls for service during the three shifts covering May 2.
On the day shift, officers responded to two calls for domestic violence, one trespass, one assault and battery, one missing person and one aggravated assault, among others. Supervisor comments: During the day, officers had multiple arrests, with several trips to the jail. Officers responded to a report of a girlfriend who had entered her boyfriend’s home and would not leave. When officers arrived, they discovered that the boyfriend had actually battered the girlfriend. He was arrested and taken to jail. Officers responded to a report of a possible aggravated battery in the south end of town. The caller stated that another male had struck his car with a bat, then sideswiped the caller when the suspect was driving away. During the investigation the suspect returned. He was intoxicated and belligerent with officers. He was arrested. On another incident, officers were called to a subject refusing to leave a business. officers located the subject and contacted him. He was also belligerent and refused to listen to officers. He stated the officers were lying and that the store employees wanted him at the business. When the employee came out and told the subject he had to leave, he still did not listen. This subject was also arrested for the trespass.
On the swing shift, officers responded to a report of a missing person, one aggravated assault, an injury accident, a burglary and a juvenile runaway, among others. Supervisor comments: Swing shift started out busy with officers responding to several calls for service, including two accidents. One was an assist to CHP in their jurisdiction. Another was a vehicle vs bicyclist on Lander Avenue. Luckily, the bicyclist did not sustain serious injuries. An aggravated assault was investigated where a 17-year-old was assaulted by two young adults at Donnelly Park. During the assault, one of the suspects kicked the victim in the head. Follow-up is being done to identify and arrest the suspects for felony assault charges. Officers responded to a trespassing call and contacted a homeless male and female. They both had warrants and were arrested.
On the night shift, officers responded to two calls for driving under the influence and a weapon violation, among others. Supervisor comments: Calls for service were manageable throughout the night. Officers stayed busy making traffic stops throughout the night. This resulted in two separate DUI arrests. While conducting extra patrol downtown, officers located a male who was found to be in possession of an illegal weapon resulting in his arrest. Another male was contacted during a traffic collision investigation and was found to have a felony warrant for his arrest.
SATURDAY: The Turlock Police Department processed 192 calls for service during the three shifts covering May 3.
On the day shift, officers responded to two calls for public intoxication, fraud, an aggravated assault, damaged property, narcotics, among others. Supervisor comments: The final work day of the week was extremely busy for dayshift officers. The shift started with a report of a male walking near the high school with a shotgun. Officers contacted the male, who was an elderly male in his 90s. He showed symptoms of dementia and made nonsensical statements. It was obvious to officers that the male had an altered view of reality. He was detained on a mental health hold. Officers went to the male’s residence to see if other family members lived there. They found he lived alone, with no family in the immediate area. While there, they located a total of 15 long guns. All firearms were taken for safekeeping due to the male’s mental health detention. Officers contacted several people during the shift who were causing disturbances and were obviously intoxicated. They were arrested and taken to jail. Officers also responded to a local mobile home park at least twice for a female yelling at her neighbors and being unstable. On the last response they were able to locate her. Other occupants of the neighborhood testified that she had assaulted one of them. She was arrested as well.
On the swing shift, officers responded to a call for juvenile abuse, shoplifting, driving under the influence, public intoxication and a juvenile runaway. Supervisor comments: The shift kept officers busy due to minimum staffing. A highlight of the shift was a DUI driver who nearly caused several collisions. He was located and arrested. His blood alcohol concentration was over three times the legal limit. He was transported to DMC for a blood draw and then booked in jail. Another highlight was a trespassing call at Columbia Pool. A female suspect was located and found to be intoxicated to the point where she could not care for herself. She was booked.
On the night shift, officers responded to three calls for driving while intoxicated and an assault and battery. Supervisor comments: Officers stayed busy throughout the shift with calls for service and self-initiated activity. When not handling calls for service, officers were making traffic stops which resulted in three impaired drivers being arrested for driving while intoxicated. Another male was arrested for domestic violence after he pushed his girlfriend during an argument.
