The attempted homicide charge against a Turlock woman for stabbing two women over a missing cell phone has been ramped up to murder after one of the victims died from her injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Eva Gallardo, 44, of Turlock. Her 26-year-old daughter also was stabbed in the same attack, though her injuries were not considered life threatening.

Maribel Gonzalez, 40, was rebooked into Stanislaus County Jail on a homicide charge after Gallardo’s death.

The incident began sometime before 10 p.m. Sunday in the 700 block of W. Olive Avenue when Gonzalez confronted the residents about her missing cell phone. The dispute escalated into a violent encounter when Gonzalez allegedly stabbed Gallardo and the 26-year-old woman.

A witness to the attack followed Gonzalez and led Turlock Police officers to her location in the 600 block of Columbia Street. She was arrested without incident and the knife used in the attack was recovered, said Turlock Police spokesperson Sgt. Stephen Webb.

Gallardo was rushed to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The 26-year-old was treated at the scene.
