A Quinceañera celebration in Hilmar came to a violent end Saturday night when two individuals were stabbed during a fight, including a 14-year-old boy.

The 14-year-old and a 21-year-old man were taken to Emanuel Medical Center for their injuries. Both are expected to recover from their wounds, said sheriff spokesman Deputy Tom MacKenzie.

The assault was reported around 9:30 p.m. Saturday by staff at the hospital.

According to the sheriff’s department, the two victims had been guests at a Quinceañera party being held at the Hilmar Grange Hall at 8188 Lander Ave.

The details of the assault are still under investigation, but detectives believe a fight broke out in the back parking lot between several subjects. During the fight the 14-year old was stabbed four times in the abdomen and upper torso, while the 21-year old was stabbed once in the stomach, MacKenzie said.

Both were transported to the hospital by ambulance. The 14-year old was taken into surgery immediately, MacKenzie said.

A motive for the assault remains unclear, though investigators believe it had gang overtones. MacKenzie said it is unknown if the two victims have gang ties.
