DENAIR — An 80‑year‑old Delhi woman died last week after a teen driver failed to yield at a rural Stanislaus County intersection, causing a broadside collision, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported at about 5:31 p.m. March 24 at Gratton Road and East Avenue. Responding crews found a Chevy pickup and a Honda sedan with major damage.
CHP said a 16‑year‑old El Dorado Hills girl was driving a 2018 Chevy pickup south on Gratton Road when she approached a raised stop sign at East Avenue and entered the intersection without yielding. A westbound 2008 Honda driven by 76‑year‑old Jose Renteria of Delhi struck the left side of the pickup.
Renteria suffered major injuries and was taken to Memorial Medical Center. His passenger, identified as 80‑year‑old Rosa Renteria of Delhi, was transported to Doctors Medical Center, where she later died.
The teen driver sustained minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital. A 77‑year‑old Winton man riding in the pickup was not injured.
All occupants were wearing seat belts, and alcohol or drugs do not appear to have been factors, officers said. The investigation is ongoing.
