A Turlock man has been jailed on allegations he shot a woman at a Turlock motel on New Year’s Day.

The shooting was reported to the Turlock Police Department at 1:23 a.m. Jan. 1 at the Venice Motel at 1114 N. Golden State Blvd.

“Officers arrived on scene and contacted the victim in a motel room who was suffering from a gunshot wound,” said Turlock Police spokesperson Sgt. Michael Parmley. “The victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.”

The shooter had already fled, but the scene was secured and a search warrant was served to gather evidence, Parmley said.

The detectives investigating the shooting identified Samuel David Martinez, AKA Samuel Leinweber, 23, of Turlock as the suspect.

Martinez was located Tuesday and he was arrested on suspicion of three counts of aggravated assault while using a firearm, a felon in possession of a firearm and a felon in possession of ammunition. He was booked at the Stanislaus County Jail without incident.
