Graduation activities return to normal

As the month of “Pomp and Circumstance” nears, local high schools will be holding pre-pandemic graduation events, along with popular senior activities.

One of the grad favorite activities returning this year is the trip to Disneyland. The trip starts on May 18 and they will return the next day.

The week of Turlock graduations will start off with ceremonies at eCademy at 5:30 p.m. and Turlock Adult School at 7 p.m. on May 24. Roselawn High commencement will be held at 6:30 p.m. May 25.

Pitman High graduates will don their robes for a ceremony being held at 7 p.m. May 26, followed by Turlock High School graduation at 7 p.m. May 27.

Students will be allotted a specific number of tickets for friends and family, according to TUSD administrative assistant Shari Rocha-Fraga.

Turlock Christian High commencement festivities are set for 6:30 p.m. May 27.

Pitman High will not be having a sober grad night this year, but Turlock will be having one at Ten Pin Fun Center, which will be hosted by the Turlock High Sober Grad Booster Club. Students will have access to Ten Pin from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. and will be able to play games, eat and have fun with their fellow graduates.

“Sober grad got started to keep kids from doing silly things after graduation,” said Booster Club secretary Victoria Ladd. “We just want to give these kids a safe place to have fun and enjoy graduating high school.”

This year’s graduation is a return to normal celebrations before the pandemic. In 2020, students had a virtual graduation while in 2021, ceremonies were spread among different times and days to allow for fewer attendees at each event.
