MJC students succeed in California Agriculture Leaders competition

Modesto Junior College students earned a first place team win in the College Bowl and numerous individual awards at the March 4 California Agriculture Leaders competition.

The “Jeopardy!”-like college bowl event was contested by Sam Terpstra, Brad Mendes, Jason Mast, Lindsay Ames and Rosebud Brumley for MJC.

In Job Interviews, Megan Woods won the Agriculture Sales division and Katie Wagner claimed third. Ryan Garcia won first in Agriculture Services, with Mast finishing second. Erica Bianchi won Agriculture Production, and Breanna Rowland won Horticulture.

MJC dominated the Portfolio category, with Karessa Mann finishing first, Bianchi second, Mast third and Natalie Sander fifth. Brumley won the Discussion Meet and Individual Sales Presentation categories, while Katie Eslick came in fifth in both categories and also finished second in Prepared Speaking. Woods and Sarah Wilson finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in Prepared Speaking. Kyle Mendes claimed forth in Extemporaneous Public Speaking.

In the Team Sales Presentation competition, Brad Mendes and John Trani won, Mann and Mast finished second, Terpstra and Wes Soto claimed fourth, and Brooke Phillips and Katie Wagner ended fifth.
