Student journalists rack up awards

Modesto Junior College journalists garnered five awards from the Journalism Association of Community Colleges of Northern California for work on the Pirates’ Log, their student newspaper.
Reporter Paul Guererro took top honors for “Tweeting the Conference” via Twitter. Zack Sherzad claimed first in opinion writing.
The photography of the Pirates’ Log was also recognized, as Rena Flores took third place in the feature photo category. The team of Jodi Dumlao, Nathan Norbeck, and Alyssa Hawkinson received an honorable mention for a photo essay on the Modesto leg of the Amgen Tour of California. Hawkinson earned a second honorable mention in the field of sports action photography.
