Council approves new road projects

Twenty-two additional local roads, totaling 5.4 miles of roadway, will soon be under construction as the Turlock City Council approved contracts for four separate bid projects.

The four project packages were awarded to two different contrition companies for a total of $12.9 million which will be funded by the citywide sales tax, Measure A.

The first project package (located in Council District 1) was awarded to United Pavement Maintenace of Hughson for $1.3 million, over $389,000 under the city engineer’s estimated cost. This project includes the following roadways:

·         Mission Street from Old Vineyard Road to N. Quincy Road

·         Tokay Avenue from N. Johnson Road to N. Quincy Road

·         N. Quincy Road from E. Marshall Street to E. Canal Drive

The second project package (located in Council District 1) was awarded to George Reed Inc. of Modesto for $3.5 million, over $1.5 million under the city engineer’s estimated cost. This project includes the following roadways:

·         El Capitan Drive from N. Berkeley Avenue to Murphy Drive

·         Kenneth Drive from N. Berkeley Avenue to East End

·         El Camino Drive from El Paseo Drive to Murphy Drive

·         La Linda Court off of El Capitan Drive

·         N. Quincy Road from E. Canal Drive to Marie Drive

·         Murphy Drive from E. Canal Drive to Mira Flores Drive

The third project package (located in Council Districts 1 and 2) was awarded to George Reed Inc. for $2.9 million, over $1.3 million under the city engineer’s estimated cost. This project includes the following roadways:

·         Lincoln Avenue from Geer Road to Monroe Avenue

·         Monroe Avenue from N. Center Street to Palm Street

·         Wolfe Avenue from N. Center Street to E. Canal Drive

·         N. Thor Street from Wolfe Avenue to E. Canal Drive

·         N. Center Street from E. Main Street to Monroe Avenue

·         Myrtle Street from Bell Street to N. Berkeley Avenue

·         Colorado Avenue from E. Marshall Street to E. Canal Drive

·         S. Broadway Avenue from R Street to D Street

The fourth project package (located in Council District 2) was awarded to United Pavement Maintenance for $4.4 million, over $1.3 million under the city engineer’s estimated cost. This project includes the following roadways:

·         Columbia Avenue from Lander Avenue to West Avenue South

·         S. Beech Street from W. Main Street to South End

·         S. Laurel Street from Columbia Street to Vermont Avenue

·         Farr Street from W. Main Street to Castor Street

“All four totaled in a savings of $4.7 million for the city overall. That means it goes to future projects, hopefully,” said Fred Pezeshk, City of Turlock roads program manager.
