The Turlock City Council recognized two individuals at the Oct. 13 council meeting for their service, compassion and actions when Turlock Transit bus driver Hector Verumen, employed by Turlock Transit’s contractor, Storer Transportation, was seriously injured in a traffic collision near High Street and West Avenue South.

Before emergency personnel arrived, community member Christina Gamboa stopped to help. She remained by Verumen’s side, providing assistance and comfort during a critical time.

Mayor Amy Bublak, alongside representatives from the Turlock Fire and Police Departments, presented both Verumen and Gamboa with certificates of appreciation, recognizing Verumen for his service to the community and Gamboa for her compassion and willingness to help someone in need.

Verumen thanked the first responders and Gamboa, sharing that her actions helped save his life. His daughter also expressed the family’s gratitude for the support they’ve received from the community.
