A portion of the tips are free and can be utilized on a daily basis to increase your savings, others are simple and economical to ensure maximum savings through the fall and winter months.

· Take advantage of heat from the sun by opening your curtains during the day to allow sunlight to naturally heat your home, and close them at night to reduce the chill from the cold windows.

· Cover drafty windows by using a heavy duty, clear plastic sheet on the inside of your window frames. Or research window treatment and coverings that can improve energy efficiency.

· Adjust the temperature when you’re home and awake by setting your thermostat as low as is comfortable. When asleep or out of the house, turn thermostat back 10 – 15 degrees for 8 hours and save around 10% a year on your energy bill.

· Find and seal leaks around pipes, gaps in chimneys, recessed lights or in unfinished spaces behind cupboards and closets. Adding caulk or weather-stripping to seal air leaks around doors and windows.
