The Korean War aged cannon that has stood watch over the corner of North Palm and Canal Drive in front of Turlock's War Memorial building was removed from its current location on Monday as a result of the City of Turlock’s sale of the 900 N. Palm Avenue properties to the Turlock Irrigation District.

The cannon will be stored at the City's corporation yard on an interim basis, where it will be prepared to be included in the Fourth of July Parade. The City said it decided to remove the historic monument to protect the cannon from vandalism or theft.

A discussion regarding relocation options for the cannon will be held at the May 13 Parks, Arts and Recreation Commission meeting. One of the suggested relocation sites for the cannon is Central Park, located at Main and Golden State Boulevard.

The public is invited to attend the Commission meeting which will be held at 6 p.m. May 13 in the Council Chambers, second floor of City Hall, 156 S. Broadway.
