Did you know, typically between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day there is about a 25 percent increase in volume of household waste? The good news is about 80 percent of it can potentially be reused, re-purposed or recycled.
Some holiday tips to help with waste is to break down cardboard boxes before placing them into the blue recycling bin, rinse any food packaging of any food residue and instead of discarding old toys or other items take to a second-hand store.
Below are a few items that should not be recycled into the blue recycling bins:
· Bubble wrap
· Cellophane
· Christmas lights
· Batteries
· Foam packaging
· Electronics
· Plastic bags (try recycling shopping bags at your local grocery store)
Please do your part to help our planet and recycle responsibly. Thank you and Merry Christmas from Municipal Services!
