Mayors from Turlock, Hughson, Ceres, Modesto, Riverbank, Patterson, Newman and Waterford – and around the state – united on Tuesday to oppose Gov. Jerry Brown’s plan to eliminate redevelopment agencies and enterprise zones in the coming state budget.

The area mayors gathered for a press conference in Modesto’s Tenth Street Plaza as part of a statewide effort called “My Vote Counts.”

The program looks to remind Brown and members of the legislature that 61 percent of voters passed Prop. 22 in 2010, which prohibits the state from taking funds used for transportation or local government projects and services. As part of that effort, My Vote Counts is collecting signatures for a petition, which will be delivered to legislators later this week, at www.MyVoteCountsCA.org
