Reminder: Public hearing for proposed solid waste rate increase
Placeholder Image

The community is encouraged to attend Tuesday’s City Council meeting to voice their thoughts and/or concerns regarding the proposed solid waste rate increase. The last approved solid waste increase was in May 2003.

Due to increases with operational costs, Turlock Scavenger is proposing a one-time increase. Typical residential solid waste services will increase by 9.16 to 9.45 percent. In order to protest the rate increase, a protest ballot must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office. In the event additional protest ballots are needed, copies can be found on the City’s website and at City Hall. Protest ballots will be accepted up to the close of the public hearing. Electronically submitted protest ballots will not be accepted (i.e. fax or email).

In accordance with Proposition 218, the City must receive 50 percent plus one protest ballots in order to prevent Council from considering a vote on the increase.

Attendance from the public at the meeting set for 6 p.m. Tuesday at 156 S. Broadway is encouraged. Additional protest ballots can be found here: http://ci.turlock.ca.us/pdf/documents/municipalservices/solidwaste.pdf
