History of Business:

209 Extreme may be a full service skateboard shop, but there are plenty of other items for sale at the downtown storefront.

The store has a host of brand name options like Fox Racing clothing and Spy sunglasses as well as portable speakers and even cell phone accessories, but owner Jim Yau said the best part is the price. As not only a retail shop but a wholesale seller as well, Yau is able to sell items at a very low price point.

“We’re wholesale so if you’re looking for phone accessories for instance, no one can beat our prices,” he said.

Wholesale buyers include other retail stores, gas stations, casinos, and even online buyers from Ebay and Amazon.com

“Even the flea market vendors buy from us,” said Yau.

In search of a better location, 209 Extreme joined the downtown Turlock scene in October after being open for seven years in Newman.

“The new location has been food for us,” said Yau.

Remembering a ‘fierce defender of freedom’
Memorial Day 1
During a Memorial Day ceremony held on Monday at Turlock Memorial Park, Marsha Gonsalves, with the support of her husband Larry, shares memories of their son, Sgt. 1st Class Chad Gonsalves, who died on Feb. 13, 2006, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee north of Deh Rawod in central Afghanistan (KRISTINA HACKER/The Journal).
Every Memorial Day, locals put on their red, white and blue attire, maybe don a red poppy in remembrance of the fallen, and make their way to Turlock Memorial Park cemetery.
