Docents from the Great Valley Museum will be at the Carnegie Arts Center from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday for a free event where participants can learn all about why plants are so important to the planet and then dissect real flowers.

Film Finale: The Modesto 48 Hour Film Competition Grand Finale Screening will start at 7 p.m. Friday at The State Theatre, 1307 J St., Modesto. This two to two-and-a-half hour live event showcases the Top 16 films of the competition and ends with an awards ceremony. For tickets, visit thestate.org.

Inter-Tribal Powwow: Modesto Junior College will host an Inter-Tribal Powwow from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in the East Campus Quad, 435 College Ave. This event will include dancing, singing, drumming, traditional arts and crafts, food and friendship - all centered on unity and cultural pride. Saturday Studio: The Carnegie Arts Center will host an open studio from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The public is invited to come by and get creative. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No preregistration is required. The Carnegie is located at 250 N. Broadway, Turlock.
