AMR announces layoffs

American Medical Response is laying off 39 emergency medical technicians because of a lost contract for service with Doctors Medical Center.

AMR was outbid for the hospital’s inter-facility transport contract. The layoffs of 12 full-time and 27 part-time employees will not affect AMR’s 911 service to Turlock, Modesto, Ceres, Keyes, Salida and Empire, said company spokesperson Ron Cunningham.

The layoff notices were sent out last week and will take effect Nov. 11, Cunningham said.

Doctors Medical Center awarded ProTransport the contract to transport stable patients between hospital and rehabilitative facilities. AMR will continue to serve as the transport provider for the hospital’s critical care patients.
