While just a second grader at Julien Elementary School, Sunny Estrada was a big part of Emanuel Medical Center’s celebration of Nurses and Hospitals Week. Estrada’s artwork was selected to be the design for the Hospitals Week t-shirt that Emanuel handed out to every employee.

His design features a giant apple and a doctor, with the words “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”

“We selected this one because we thought that it just really fit with the hospital’s mission. We want to make sure people are healthy. We to make sure that they are seeing the doctor when they need to take care of themselves. And we thought his design was amazing,” said Alli Martin, executive assistant for the CEO of Emanuel Medical Center.

Estrada was on hand Wednesday to hand out the t-shirts himself during an appreciation luncheon for the hospital employees.

This was the first year the hospital held the t-shirt design contest for local students.

“I think we’re going to keep it up...(and have) another t-shirt contest next year,” said Martin.
