Turlock now boasts a few more trees, following an Arbor Day celebration held at Four Seasons Park on Wednesday.
Mayor Amy Bublak and Councilmember Erika Phillips spoke at the annual event, which is part of Turlock’s Tree City USA designation. Turlock Junior High School students in the city’s after-school program helped plant three of the 15 trees that have a new home at the neighborhood park.
"We want to make sure we're showing everybody how improtant our trees are to us and our parks are to us," said Mayor Bublak, who went on to encourage the students to name the trees they were planting that day.
"You're going to come back with your new family when you get older and you're going to say, 'Hey, look we did this. I remember I helped plant that tree right there.'"
