Authorities identify man killed in rollover crash
emergency

The man who was killed when his truck overturned into an irrigation canal Friday morning has been identified by authorities.

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Dylan Linhares, 31, of Turlock. Linhares was a husband and a father of three young children and worked at the Farmers Livestock Market in Oakdale.

Linhares was driving a 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck on Harding Avenue, west of Moffett Road on the outskirts of Turlock. Harding is a narrow, old road running parallel to the irrigation canal.

There were no witnesses to the crash, but based on the evidence at the scene, the California Highway Patrol investigators believe Linhares was headed eastbound on Harding Road, when for an unknown reason he let the pickup truck drift off the road and onto the south grass shoulder, where the right side of the pickup struck a metal pole.

The impact caused the pickup to veer to the north and down the ravine, where it overturned into the irrigation canal, landing on its roof. The canal had a shallow amount of water in it, said CHP spokesman Officer Tom Olsen.

Linhares was not wearing a seat belt, according to the CHP and was ejected out of the pickup.

The solo crash was discovered by a passerby at 8:45 a.m., but CHP investigators said the collision happened before sunrise.

Linhares was pronounced deceased at the scene.

It’s unknown at this time if drugs and/or alcohol contributed to the collision.
