The Turlock Library will host a variety of events in the month of April aimed at encouraging literacy and expanding knowledge for all ages.
Those looking to get help filing their taxes still have time to attend the AARP’s free tax preparation service at the Turlock library from noon to 3 p.m. today, April 8 and 15. Walk-ins are welcome, as there is no option for advance registration.
Those who love Pokémon are invited to come and meet others who share their passion from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today. Participants can hang out and trade or battle on their Nintendo Switch or bring their trading cards for a friendly game, hunt for shinies in Pokémon GO, and more. All ages welcome; children 4 and under must have direct adult supervision.
The Friends of the Turlock Library group will meet at 6:30 p.m. today. All are invited.
Spanish-speaking adults can learn how to make a two-circle handbag at 1 p.m. Friday. All materials will be provided. Pre-registration is required at 209-664-8100.
A T(w)een Tuesday event will be held at 4 p.m. April 7. Participants join in the Turlock Library Maker Space and learn how to turn old calendar photos into unique works of art. Material will be provided. This program is designed for ages 9-18.
Children can create a rainbow craft at 4 p.m. April 7. Kids will have the opportunity to cut, tear and glue recycled materials to create colorful collages. This program is aimed at children ages 8 and younger, but all ages are welcome. Children under 4 must have direct supervision from parents or adult guardians.
The Mystery Lovers Book Club will meet at 10:30 a.m. April 13. This month’s book is “One Step Too Far” by Lisa Gardner.

A T(w)een Tuesday event will be held at 4 p.m. April 14. Participants can build LEGO creations using the library’s LEGO blocks and bring them to life with stop-motion film. This program is designed for ages 9 and older.
The library will host a Turlock LEGO Day at 4 p.m. April 14. Children will have the opportunity to build LEGO creations using the library’s LEGO and Duplo blocks. This program helps young ones develop critical thinking skills, and teaches basic engineering concepts. Children under 4 are welcome, but must have direct parental supervision.
The Turlock Chess Club will meet from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 15. Whether you are an amateur, a master, or somewhere between, you are invited to bring your board to meet and play against others for practice or friendly competition.
The library will host a Children’s Book Day at 4 p.m. April 21. This multicultural celebration will focus on the importance of reading. The library will offer crafts, activities and a special bilingual Story Time. Each child will receive a free new book while supplies last.
The library will host a Video Game Day at 3 p.m. April 22. This Nintendo Switch activity is for ages 8 and up, however, please note that some games may have content suitable for ages 10 and up (rated E10+).
Los Luceros de Osborn will present a ballet folklórico performance at 3:30 p.m. April 22 in celebration of El día de los niños/El día de los libros.
The UC Master Gardeners will talk about the new California front yard at 6 p.m. April 22. Take this class to learn how to redo your landscape with drip irrigation and water wise plants, including California natives.
Children can learn how to make origami bookmarks at 4 p.m. April 28. Children are invited to test different folding techniques and follow their curiosity to transform paper in unique ways. This craft will help them develop fine motor skills, focus, and problem-solving through open-ended creative exploration. This program is aimed at children 8 and younger, but all ages are welcome. Children under 4 must have direct supervision from parents or adult guardians.
A T(w)een Tuesday event will be held at 4 p.m. April 28. Participants will learn how to use pressed flowers to make bookmarks for spring. This program is designed for ages 9-18. Materials will be provided.
K-Pop fans are invited to an event from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. April 29. Participants can make bias bracelets and buttons, try Korean snacks, and listen to some of their favorite artists. This program is designed for ages 8 and up and requires registration. Please individually register each person attending.
