Assemblyman Bill Berryhill named Bilson's Sport Shop in Turlock as the 26th Assembly District 2011 Small Business of the Year.
Each year, The California Assembly honors small businesses from each assembly district for being successful and charitable business members within the communities in which they thrive.
Berryhill praised Bilson’s Sport Shop for its decades of community support through charity to local youth sports programs and civic organizations throughout the Turlock area during a ceremony held in Sacramento on Monday.
“The community of Turlock can be proud to patron a business that does so much for the youth and for recreational organizations in our community,” said Berryhill.
Bilson’s Sports Shop has been a cornerstone of the Turlock sports community since it was originally opened in 1955 by Bill Bilson. Second generation owner Brad Bilson and partner Steve Moe have been running the operation since they purchased the business from Bill Bilson in 1997.
Bilson’s Sports Shop in Turlock is also well known for being a major sponsor of many sports and civic organizations in the greater Turlock area. Bilson's list of charity to teams and the sponsorship of various civic organizations is long and spans over decades. Some examples of organizations that Bilson’s has supported are: Boy Scout Troop 21 of Turlock, Crows Landing Lions Club, Hilmar High Girls Basketball, Hughson 4-H, Kiwanis of Turlock, Pitman Athletic Club, Turlock American Little League Baseball, Turlock Bulldog Booster Club, Turlock Christian Schools, Turlock High Baseball, Turlock High Sober Grad Night… and the list goes on.
