Blood bank has urgent need for local donors

Delta Blood Bank has an emergency need for blood donors.

“Our inventory is greatly depleted right now,” said Annie Havens, Delta's marketing manager, “dangerously so.”

Platelet donors and those with O negative, A negative and B positive blood types are especially needed.

Every two seconds, someone needs blood and a donation is only good for 42 days.  It’s possible to save three lives with just one donation and donors can give blood every 56 days.

“In the summer months, it becomes more difficult to get donors into our sites. Vacations take their toll on the blood supply and we hope to remind everyone that blood is needed 365 days a year,” said Havens.

Delta Blood Bank has served the Central Valley for over 60 years and provides blood to 11 local hospitals. The Turlock branch is open from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays and 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and is located at 655 E. Hawkeye Ave.

For hours of operation at other locations, visit deltabloodbank.org or call (888) 94-BLOOD (25663) to make an appointment to donate.
