TURLOCK — Blue Diamond Growers has reaffirmed its leadership in sustainable manufacturing with a Green Business re-certification at its flagship Turlock facility.
The honor, awarded through the California Green Business Network and Modesto Chamber of Commerce, was celebrated on June 30 and reflects the almond cooperative’s continued commitment to environmental stewardship, resource efficiency, and responsible production.
Located at 1300 North Washington Road, the 250,000-square-foot plant was the first in Stanislaus County to receive Green Business certification in 2021—and now stands as the first to be re-certified. Blue Diamond’s Salida facility also earned certification in 2021, underscoring a company-wide commitment to sustainability across operations.
“This re-certification highlights our team’s commitment to ‘Grow with Care,’ not just in the orchards but across all our operations,” said Dr. Dan Sonke, Head of Sustainability for Blue Diamond Growers. “We’re proud of the Turlock team’s efforts and the recognition through this recertification. Their commitment to good stewardship reflects that commitment to our land and our neighbors.”
The certification recognizes businesses that meet stringent criteria in areas including water conservation, energy efficiency, pollution prevention, waste reduction, recycling improvements, the use of alternative transportation, and collaboration with local vendors. These verified measures not only reduce environmental impact but foster stronger community relationships and support sustainable growth.
The Turlock plant recently celebrated its 12th anniversary and remains a cornerstone of Blue Diamond’s innovation in almond processing. Under the leadership of site director Travis Hill, the facility performs a wide array of specialized functions such as blanching, roasting, slicing, dicing, and slivering almonds for use in cereals, snack bars, baked goods, yogurt toppings, and candies. It also produces the beverage base for Blue Diamond’s Almond Breeze® Almondmilk and processes almond flour and other value-added almond products.
“We appreciate the support and recognition from our community partners as we strive for continuous improvement in our operations,” said Jeff Hatfield, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing. “From partnerships with the growers in the field through best practices at our manufacturing sites, we strive to be good stewards of the earth and of the almonds we deliver to the world.”
