Typically, thrifting isn’t in most people’s plans for Valentine’s Day celebrations, but the ladies at Little Red Door at 340 E. Main St. in Turlock are looking to change all that with their Thrift Night Out event on Feb. 10. The event will include seven local vendors, each offering unique, sustainable products, mirroring the eco-friendly mission of the popular downtown thrift boutique.
“We’re excited for this because our business, Little Red Door, started as a pop-up inside another downtown business,” explained owner Marissa Miranda. “We just love the idea of helping other startups come in. I also feel like everyone right now is wanting to have experiences of going out, having fun and creating memories and checking out new places, especially when it comes to small businesses and downtown. We thought Valentine’s Day was a great time for people to get gifts, whether it’s for yourself or a significant other while enjoying some light refreshments, just having an overall good time with one another.”
The seven vendors who will join Little Red Door are Six: Eight Coffee, Thumbs Up Poetry, Jewelry by Violet, Paparazzi Jewelry, Full June Creations, Colibri Candles and Maison Fleuri by Isleen.
Six: Eight Coffee is owned by Jake and Chelsea Giffen, who roast inside their cottage kitchen. Thumbs Up Poetry offers typewritten and displayed poems by local poet Casey Griffen. Jewelry by Violet offers stylish earrings made entirely from unique reused objects by Violet Freeby. Paparazzi Jewelry also offers jewelry made from unique material by local teacher Christy Lundquist. Full June Creations by Amanda Shelton offers potted plants and secondhand home goods. Colibri Candles by Elisa Sanchez will have soy candles available, which are poured into traditional Mexican, ornate pottery. Last but not least, Maison Fleuri by Isleen Montoya offer special arrangements of dry and fresh flowers. In addition to the outside vendors, Little Red Door will also be putting out several pieces of new inventory in their store.
“Our store, we love highlighting local vendors, but we’ve never done a pop-up before inside the store, so this is our first experience. As a sustainable company, the majority of the vendors are sustainable. We are for bringing ethical and sustainable consumerism to the Valley and it’s going to be really cool to have all of these amazing small businesses all in one place,” said store manager Kaye Roos.
And while the event is centered around Valentine’s Day, Roos explained that anybody can come regardless of who you are or your relationship status.
“This isn’t tailored to any group or relationship, it’s for everyone,” she said. “You can come by yourself, with your friends, literally anybody, because once you come here, you’ll end up making friends with everyone anyway, and that’s the type of vibe we have here.”
Miranda added that after the Feb. 10 event, they hope to host monthly gatherings at the store.
“We’re trying to do one community event at least once a month to provide those unique experiences. Today, everyone can just order things on Amazon from the comfort of their own home, but there is still something to be said about going into a store and socializing with people, doing fun stuff like this and even finding one-of-a-kind things like this that you aren’t able to find on Amazon. This month’s event will be a great way for us to test this concept out,” she explained.
This month’s Thrift Night Out will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. More information can be found on their Instagram at @Little.Red.Door.Pre.Loved or on their Facebook page at Little Red Door.
