A young girl crossing a busy Turlock street Saturday evening was struck by a vehicle in the oncoming traffic.

The girl, whose name and age were not released, sustained non-life threatening injuries, but was still taken by air ambulance to an area hospital. The girl is younger than a teenager, according to the Turlock Police Department.

The girl was crossing Geer Road around 5 p.m. Saturday between Calaveras Way and Fullerton Drive. She was not in a crosswalk, according to the police report.

One lane of traffic had stopped for the girl, but she crossed into the other lane before traffic had stopped and was hit by a car.
