Churches offer safe, fun holiday activities

Although Halloween is a popular holiday amongst children and adults, there are many individuals who prefer a safe alternative to the regular trick-or-treating.
Fortunately, many churches in Turlock are providing their own harvest festivals in lieu of Halloween celebrations, including:
Turlock Church of Christ:
o The Turlock Church of Christ will hold a Fall Festival this weekend that will include games, crafts, pictures candy and costumes. The church requests that guests do not wear scary costumes. The Fall Festival will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, located at 801 N. Tully Road.
First United Methodist Church:
o The First United Methodist Church of Turlock will be holding a Halloween party after its Sunday service on Oct. 27, where children will be able to participate in a costume contest and eat candy. Church begins at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, at 1600 Arbor Way.
Harvest Christian Center
o Harvest Christian Center will conduct its annual Harvest Family Carnival on Wednesday, providing a fun evening with inflatables, carnival games, concessions, candy, prizes and more. An entrance fee of $3 will be collected at the gate. The Harvest Family Carnival will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 30 at the HCC downtown campus at 225 Fourth St.
Valley Hope Community Church
o The Valley Hope Community Church of Turlock will hold a Harvest Festival from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31, located at 610 W. Hawkeye Ave.
Calvary Baptist Church
o Calvary Baptist Church is putting on a family carnival that will include a bounce house, games, a costume contest, and candy from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31, located in the gymnasium at 700 E. Monte Vista Ave.

 

 

Local Rite Aid stores prepare to close

The shelves at Turlock’s Rite Aid drugstore on Monte Vista Avenue are slowly being emptied and signs posted on the store’s popular Thrifty counter state “No More Ice-Cream” with a cartoon cone sporting a frowny face. An employee of the local drugstore on Thursday confirmed to curious customers that the store will be closing its doors, but he didn’t know exactly when.
