Citizen police academy

The Turlock Police Department will be hosting a citizen police academy starting March 21.

The program consists of a series of 12 classes and discussions held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays and will cover a wide range of topics involving law enforcement. There is no cost to anyone who enrolls.

Some of the topics to be discussed are: Officer Recruitment and Training; Crime Scene Investigation; Police Emergency Communications Center; Crime Prevention; Narcotics Enforcement; and Special Weapons and Tactics. 

There is limited space in the academy and registration is required. Those interested in attending can e-mail Turlock Police Department Crime Prevention Officer Michelle Backeroff at mbackeroff@turlock.ca.us or call 656-3153.

A recurring theme at the opening night of the 2025 Stanislaus County Fair in Turlock — the 107th edition of the annual event — was the heat. Sure, it's not 108 degrees like last year, but 102 on Friday afternoon wasn't too far off.
