A Turlock man died at the scene of a collision with a power pole Thursday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The deceased was identified as Steven Johnson, 55, of Turlock. Johnson was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado.
Shortly before 2:30 p.m. Thursday Johnson was driving his pickup truck northbound on Paulson Road, just south of Center Street, at an undetermined speed. According to the CHP report, Johnson appears to have lost control of the truck and left the roadway, just as the vehicle was approaching a curve.
The truck collided with a wood power pole before coming to a stop.
The CHP report indicates alcohol and/or drugs did play a contributing factor in the collision.
In addition to the CHP, the Turlock Police and Fire departments, the Turlock Rural Fire Department and American Medical Response all responded to the scene of the collision.
The area remained closed to traffic for several hours during the initial response and investigation.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
