Two girls and two boys from both Turlock and Pitman high schools spoke about their adventures at Girls State and Boys State this past summer at the American Legion Hall on Friday. They all went for a week-long conference to learn about the process of the California government, how it works and they even built their own government from the ground up.

“It was cool to see the process of killing and passing a bill,” said Albany Vega, Pitman High senior who attended Girls State.

For Girls State, Turlock High senior Azrael Nickens and Vega attended the conference. For Boys State, Turlock High senior Nicholas McGinnis and Pitman High senior Omar Valencia attended the conference.

Nickens even won an office during Girls State as Secretary of State. Valencia took a spot on the election board and Vega took a position as a clerk for the Senate.
