History of Business: For two years, Fernandes custom baked and decorated shortbread cookies for special events like weddings, birthdays, and showers. In May, Fernandes had the opportunity to open up a retail shop in downtown Turlock, where she has expanded her offerings to include cookies of every type.

So far, business has been great, Fernandes said, with the Turlock Farmers Market bringing a steady flow of customers on Fridays.

Business Specialty: Lisa’s Cookie Jar specializes in cookies, from standards like chocolate chip to Fernandes’ famous vanilla shortbread and vintage-inspired “Magic Bars.”

“I always have new ones I’m introducing,” Fernandes said.

The shortbread cookies are Lisa Cookie Jar’s standard, decorated in bright colors for any occasion. Cookies on display range from San Francisco Giants’ jerseys to watermelons and American flags.

Fernandes is always looking for new recipes, and encourages customers to bring in custom orders with recipes in hand, should they have a particular taste in mind.
