A solo vehicle crash in north Modesto resulted in the death of a 45-year-old Keyes man and sent his passenger to the hospital with major injuries.

The name of the deceased has not been released pending next of kin notification.

The collision happened shortly after 9 p.m. Monday on Ladd Road, west of Tully Road according to the California Highway Patrol.

The man was driving a 2004 Kia westbound on Ladd at an unknown speed. For an unknown reason, the driver allowed the Kia to drift off the road. He over corrected and veered across both lanes and into an orchard, where it hit several almond trees, the CHP reported.

The vehicle overturned several times.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passenger, Elvira Juarez, 47, of Keyes, sustained major injuries from the crash and was transported to Doctors Medical Center.

Both individuals were wearing seat belts. Alcohol and drugs are not considered to be a factor in the crash.
