A man sustained major injuries and was rushed to an area hospital after a single vehicle accident on Highway 99 in Turlock Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred just before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday on southbound Highway 99 at the Monte Vista Avenue offramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The injured man was driving a 1999 Ford SUV southbound on the highway, when for an unknown reason he seems to have lost control of the vehicle.

The Ford overturned multiple times before coming to a rest on the tires near the offramp.

The first emergency personnel to arrive found the man lying outside of the vehicle.

The Monte Vista Avenue offramp was temporarily closed and traffic backed up on the highway, the CHP reported.

The collision remains under investigation.
