Dads make time for crafts
Dads-pic2
Over 300 people filled the halls of Wakefield Elementary School Friday to participate in the “Daddy and Me” holiday workshop. There were more than 15 activities for the fathers and their children to participate in ranging from taking pictures with Santa to making their own ornaments. The workshop lasted for two hours, ending in a dinner for all that attended.
Over the past four years, this annual workshop has become more and more successful. Seven fathers signed up for the first year and this year 104 dads showed up to spend time with their children.

Remembering a ‘fierce defender of freedom’
Memorial Day 1
During a Memorial Day ceremony held on Monday at Turlock Memorial Park, Marsha Gonsalves, with the support of her husband Larry, shares memories of their son, Sgt. 1st Class Chad Gonsalves, who died on Feb. 13, 2006, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee north of Deh Rawod in central Afghanistan (KRISTINA HACKER/The Journal).
Every Memorial Day, locals put on their red, white and blue attire, maybe don a red poppy in remembrance of the fallen, and make their way to Turlock Memorial Park cemetery.
