Dancing With the Turlock Stars presents at check to the Salvation Army for $59,000.

All the late nights of practice, aching feet and cases of stage fright paid off for the Dancing With the Turlock Stars couples and event organizers when the nonprofit was able to deliver large checks last week to three local charities — Salvation Army, Jessica’s House and Covenant Care at Home.

DWTTS presented $59,000 to each charity. A large portion of the funds came from Dianna Bettencourt, the 2019 Mirror Ball winner, with Kindrea Geiger and Deanna Gonzales coming in a tie for second place. They were within $90 of each other and both broke $22,000 in fundraising for the charities.

At that point, Darla Nelson of Turlock had been a certified life coach for about three years, and while she had offered advice to a wide variety of clients, she did something new – she began writing down her thoughts on a Google Document.
