A Denair man died in a collision Tuesday when his vehicle struck another at the intersection of Yosemite Boulevard and Geer Road and he was ejected from his car, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The name of the deceased has not been released pending next of kin notification. He was 32 years old.

The collision was reported at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday.

The Denair man was driving a Ford sedan when he struck a Ford SUV on the driver’s side. The preliminary investigation points to the Denair man having run a red light.

The first emergency responders found the sedan pinned up against a wall in the parking lot of a gas station. The Denair man was found nearby on the road. According to the CHP, he was not wearing his seatbelt at the tie of the collision and was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford SUV was identified as Paul Spani, a firefighter with Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District. He sustained minor injuries and was transported to Doctors Medical Center for treatment.

It’s unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
