History of business: For six years, dentist Antoine Varani operated a successful, standard dental practice from an office at the corner of Delbon and North Olive avenues. But as his practice outgrew the space, Varani decided to not only move, but to transform his practice into a dental spa at the same time.
Two months ago, Varani opened his new dental spa at 527 E. Olive Ave. The office uses a concept popular in upscale regions but new to Turlock, which looks to make dental work an enjoyable experience.
“The idea is, when patients come in, you get rid of that anxiety right away,” said Anokeen Varani, Antoine Varani’s wife and office manager at the Dental Spa.
In traditional dental offices, patients are bound to have a bad dental experience, Anokeen Varani said, because they enter the office expecting nothing better.
When patients walk in to the Dental Spa, though, they’re greeted with complimentary apple water, comfortable furniture, calming colors, and a spa-like décor. Patients check in on an iPad, and customize their visit by picking an aromatherapy scent – masking standard, unpleasant dental smells – and choosing a TV or radio station to listen to.
The spa experience doesn’t end with aromatherapy – customers are treated to a free paraffin hand wax treatment, and dental chairs that feature built-in massage features. An on-staff esthetician and massage therapist are available for appointments. And Keurig coffee is available in to-go cups for after procedures are completed.

Business specialty: Despite the spa-like trappings, the Dental Spa is a comprehensive dental office.
From checkups to cosmetic work, Antoine Varani does it all. Zoom whitening, Invisalign clear braces, and inexpensive veneers are on offer to those in need.
