No one really needs a reason to eat good Italian food, but those who want an excuse to indulge in a few extra calories next week can take advantage of the upcoming Cat Network of Stanislaus fundraiser being hosted by Vito’s Ristorante in Turlock.

Vito’s is holding a $15 chicken parmigiana drive-thru dinner from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. July 3, with all proceeds going towards the Cat Network’s project of helping with a colony of over 30 feral cats in Turlock.

The Cat Network is a non-profit cat advocacy organization dedicated to the care and welfare of feral stray cats of the greater Stanislaus County area. They offer spay and neuter support for stray and feral cats, information and training on how to trap-neuter-release, trap loans and educational outreach.

Monica Parker started the Cat Network of Stanislaus in 2012, but has been working with the feral cat population in the area since 1999.

“Every community has feral cats and there needs to be an organization that has experts on how to manage the cat population and whatever goes into that — trapping techniques, education, just promoting the care of them and colony control,” said Parker about why she started the nonprofit.

According to the Cat Network, if you find a group of feral cats, the most important thing to do is get all of them fixed (spayed or neutered). The Network wants to remind people that that not every cat walking outside is lost or homeless. Cats have an amazing ability to go for walks on a nice day. They visit with their neighborhood friends and may even have a snack while their doing it. But they have a home elsewhere. They are not lost of dumped. Some cats have a tipped ear. That means they are already fixed and do not need to do anything (unless the cat has a medical emergency).

Every month the Cat Network of Stanislaus facilitates 80 to 100 cat surgeries. This accomplishment is made possible through community donations and participation. in fundraisers. For more information, visit: https://catnetworkofstanislaus.org/

Tickets must be purchased in advance for the Vito’s drive-thru dinner, either by calling 209-667-1010 or at the restaurant itself, 3851 Crowell Rd.

A recurring theme at the opening night of the 2025 Stanislaus County Fair in Turlock — the 107th edition of the annual event — was the heat. Sure, it's not 108 degrees like last year, but 102 on Friday afternoon wasn't too far off.
