The Distinguished Young Women of Turlock scholarship program (formerly known as Turlock’s Junior Miss) will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Turlock Community Theatre.

Twenty-eight junior girls from the class of 2012, representing five different local high schools, will compete in five categories. Those categories and the percent of the total score they represent are: Interview, 25%; Talent, 25%; Scholastic, 20%; Fitness, 15%; and Self Expression, 15%. Two other categories are not judged; they are Be Your Best Self and Spirit.

The winners of Turlock’s program will go on to compete in the Distinguished Young Women of California event held in Bakersfield. After the state program, the winners will move on the DYW of America in Mobile, Ala.

Tickets for the Turlock DYW program are $12 each and available through the participants, at Backstage Dance Company, and at the door on the night of the program. There will be a silent auction and raffle held before and during the show to raise money for the girls.

Look in the March 14 edition of the Turlock Journal for a description of each contestant and their picture.
