The fees for adoption of all cats and dogs at the Turlock Animal Shelter will be sponsored throughout the month of December by the Turlock Poker Room (Photo contributed).

The Turlock Animal Shelter is on a mission to clear out the shelter by the year’s end and their effort has gotten a big boost from the Turlock Poker Room.

The Turlock Poker Room has generously funded all animal adoption fees through the month of December. This is the fourth year that the Turlock Poker Room has made such a donation.

Animals available for adoption are posted on the Turlock Animal Services Facebook Page and on PetHarbor.com. Beginning at 10 a.m. on the day of available adoption for each animal, the first appointment/first pick for an animal will be selected for the adoption.

No holds will be issued.

In order to ensure the adoptive animals have a home, the adopter must have proof of home ownership or rental agreement at the time of adoption. All other adoption guidelines apply. Adoptions include the pet being spayed/neutered prior to the adoption, rabies vaccination, first vaccines, microchip and a pet license for City of Turlock residents. Non-Turlock residents can still adopt, this is not just for Turlock residents.

While the pets are waiting for their new homes, the shelter is in need of dry dog food. Puppy food is especially needed for the dogs that need to put on some weight. Donations are accepted at the shelter during the normal business hours. Pet food coming directly from Amazon can be shipped to 701 S. Walnut, Turlock CA 95380.

The Turlock Animal Shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The shelter will be closed Dec. 24, 25, 31 and Jan. 1.

Pitman High graduate Chrys Kamesch and school FFA advisor Trenton Kemps pose with the custom bench that Kamesch created in honor of the Lourenco family, a project that won top honors at last week’s Stanislaus County Fair (CHRISTOPHER CORREA/The Journal).
As thousands took to Turlock over the last two weeks for the 2025 Stanislaus County Fair, the absence of a family that was incredibly dedicated to the community and especially its agricultural activities was heavily felt by several attendees. That included members of the Pitman High School FFA chapter.
