A Turlock business is helping to support education while asking county young women to plan for their future in leadership roles.

Yonan’s Jewelers is giving away a $1,000 scholarship as part of the empowHER Lounge at the Stanislaus County Fair. Girls ages 16 and older who are attending high school or college can enter this contest giveaway by answer the following question in 500 words:

·         - As females, we should support each other rather than compete with each other. As a future woman leader, how will you empower other females as you move further up in your career?

Those interested in entering the essay contest must email answers to yonansfloral@aol.com with subject title "Scholarship” by June 30.  Along with their essay question answer, participates must also include their full name, age and what school they attend.

Yonan’s Jewelers will select the winner before the fair starts and the scholarship check is expected to be presented at the empowHER Lounge on July 18.

The empowHER Lounge will return to the fair for the second year, offering young women a place to gather and participate in inspiring workshops.

“Young women must feel confident within themselves and harness leadership skills to succeed in the real world,” said Adrenna Alkhas, spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Fair. “This lounge will provide fun educational opportunities that will inspire young girls to be leaders in our community.”

Alkhas created the lounge to teach young women how to support each other instead of competing, which will set the tone for becoming a successful leader.

Giving girls the confidence to be themselves through workshops is the goal of the lounge. The lounge will also encourage girls to empower others as much as they empower themselves.  W.E.L.L. Leadership, a woman’s education and leadership league, will provide daily presentations on how to conduct themselves in different aspects of their daily lives.

The lounge will also provide daily hair and makeup tutorials, presented by Toni ‘n Guy. Participating retailers from Vintage Faire Mall will also have a back-to-school product display and fashions geared towards educating young women on how to dress for the life they want to lead. The lounge will be open daily during the Fair on weekdays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and weekends from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The 2017 Stanislaus County Fair opens July 14 for a 10-day run. For more information about the Fair, visit www.stancofair.com.
