Empty the Shelter

All adoption fees for dogs will be waived during the Empty the Shelter event taking place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The Stanislaus Animal Services Agency is inviting the community to participate in a special "Empty the Shelter" event, sponsored in memory of Kyle MacDonald. All adoption fees for dogs will be waived during this event, taking place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

November marks one of the busiest times of the year for animals coming into the shelter, and SASA seeks the support of the community to find loving homes for the many dogs awaiting adoption. The event aims to create a meaningful connection between families and pets while honoring the memory of a devoted dog lover, Kyle MacDonald.

MacDonald's love for his dogs, Saber and Kaeger, inspired this event, and with over 230 beautiful dogs on hand, attendees are sure to find the perfect new love of their lives to adopt, according to SASA.

All dog adoptions during the event will be free and on a first-come, first-served basis, so prospective adopters are encouraged to arrive early. Each adopted dog will be current on shots, microchipped and spayed/neutered.

November is also National Adopt a Pet Month and SASA will waive adoption fees all month for dogs five years and older for citizens who are 50 years and older.

The Stanislaus Animal Services Agency is located at 3647 Cornucopia Way, Modesto. For more information, call (209) 558-7387.

A recurring theme at the opening night of the 2025 Stanislaus County Fair in Turlock — the 107th edition of the annual event — was the heat. Sure, it's not 108 degrees like last year, but 102 on Friday afternoon wasn't too far off.
