Stanislaus County Officials and the Sheriff’s Department are issuing a recommended evacuation notice for specific areas along the San Joaquin River in the Newman area in response to the rising river levels.

The impacted areas include Catfish Camp located at River Road and Crows Landing Road, Turlock Sportsmen’s Club, Fisherman’s Bend, Thomas’ Retreat, and Martin RV Park located on River Road, northeast of the City of Newman. River levels have risen faster than anticipated and are expected to remain high for at least five days. The high water levels have impacted septic systems, drinking water and electrical systems in these areas.

A command post has been established at River Road and Villa Manucha. The Community Services Agency and the American Red Cross will open a shelter at the Hammond Senior Center located at 1033 West Las Palmas Ave., in Patterson.

Residents are reminded to use caution around the river and be aware of water hazards.
