Those seeking to enter Turlock along South Golden State Boulevard from Merced County should expect road closures for the next month.
Starting this week and through Oct. 10, northbound Golden State Boulevard/Golf Road and Paulson Road/Berkeley Avenue intersections in south Turlock will be fully closed to traffic while Union Pacific Railroad replaces the concrete track panels at the railroad crossing. At the same time, roadway rehabilitation and final paving of the northbound Golden State Blvd lanes will be completed.
During this closure, traffic will be restricted at Paulson Road, Berkeley Avenue, and the northbound Golden State Blvd/Golf Road intersection. Detours will be clearly posted, and drivers are urged to use caution in the area.
— Northbound Golf Road: Detour north to Golden State Blvd, east to F Street, north to Alpha Rd, then east to East Ave.
— Paulson Road and Berkeley Avenue Intersection: Closed to all traffic. Follow posted detours for alternate access.
— Paulson Road: Detour west to Linwood Ave, north to Johnson Rd, then east on East Ave.
— South Berkeley Avenue: Detour via Alpha Rd to F Street.
The project aims to reduce collisions, ease traffic flow, and enhance overall driver safety by:
· Adding a traffic signal to the intersection of Golden State Boulevard and Golf Road;
· Upgrading the Paulson Road and South Berkeley Avenue intersection with traffic signals and lane widening. All traffic signals will be coordinated with railroad traffic to reduce delays and improve safety;
· Adding a new right-in/right-out intersection and raised concrete median, limiting left turns for northbound access from Golf Road to South 1st Street; and
· Adding u-turns at the new signalized Golf Road intersection to provide access to northbound South 1st Street from Golf Road. A separate right-in/rightout access to Golden State Boulevard from South 1st Street will also be added.
The Golden State Boulevard project is funded by local, state and federal sources, including federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funds, federal Regional Surface Transportation Program (RSTP), local match from Stanislaus County Roads fund, and the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 (SB 1 — “Gas Tax”).
Project milestones, traffic impacts, and additional updates will be posted at scroads.org.
