Fire at Turlock eatery

The Turlock Fire Department is working to determine what caused a fire at a fast food restaurant Thursday morning. The fire was reported around 3 a.m. Thursday at the Sonic Drive-in in the 3400 block of Monte Vista Ave. The first crews to arrive at the scene found thick black smoke coming from the roof of the eatery. They took an aggressive attack to fight the fire, including calling in additional resources.

A recurring theme at the opening night of the 2025 Stanislaus County Fair in Turlock — the 107th edition of the annual event — was the heat. Sure, it's not 108 degrees like last year, but 102 on Friday afternoon wasn't too far off.
