The Turlock Fire Department is working to determine what caused a fire at a  fast food restaurant Thursday morning.

The fire was reported around 3 a.m. Thursday at the Sonic Drive-in in the 3400 block of Monte Vista Ave.

The first crews to arrive at the scene found thick black smoke coming from the roof of the eatery. They took an aggressive attack to fight the fire, including calling in additional resources.

Two searches confirmed the building was empty, so firefighters were able to put all their efforts into stopping the flames, which were shortly brought under control.

Turlock City Fire responded to the incident with three engines, Squad 32, Battalion 4, and the Chief of the Department. Ceres Fire Department provided assistance with one engine and a battalion chief while Turlock Rural Fire provided station coverage for the City.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call 669-2119.
