Firefighters battle a blaze that started in a 53-foot refrigerated tractor at Northern Refrigerated Transportation on W. Main Street on Sunday and spread into the loading dock.

The Turlock Fire Department was dispatched to the fire and enroute were advised that the fire was spreading from the refrigerated trailer into a building through the loading dock door. The call was upgraded to a working structure fire, said Turlock Fire spokesman Capt. Jason Bernard.

The first firefighters to arrive at the scene found the 53-foot refrigerated tractor trailer fully engulfed in flames.

"Firefighters immediately went into fire attack mode using 2 1/2” and 1 3/4” hose lines, ultimately containing the fire," Bernard said.

All the employees were out of the building and accounted for as firefighters started their check of the interior of the building.

Flames had spread into the building, but were kept at bay when the sprinkler system activated.

The fire caused about $25,000 in property damage and $400,000 in product loss, according to the fire department.

Turlock Fire responded to the incident with three engines, Squad 32 and a battalion chief. A mutual aid request brought in another battalion chief, three engines and a truck for a total of 26 firefighters on-scene and another engine for city coverage.
